The history of Alcide

The restaurant Alcide founded in 1849 is still managed by the family Ancillotti and is famous for it’s sea food.  

In fact In the 20’s Alcide Ancillotti brought fresh fish to Poggibonsi and opened the first fish shop in town and his daughter Maria started to cook “Cacciucco alla Livornese” (Livornese fish soup) which is still the most famous dish in the restaurant today.

The “risotto Bianco Mare” (white fish risotto) and Sole cooked in “Vernaccia” wine are authentic recipes by Maria Ancillotti who was awarded the “Cuoco D’oro” (Gold Cook) in 1968.

Giacomo takes care of the menu and kitchen at Alcide today being one of the sixth generation carrying on the tradition of the family Ancillotti with the ability to unite traditional dishes and contemporary cooking.

The menu at Alcide respects the tradition renown in Tuscany and elsewhere for 6 generations of Alcide Ancillotti.

Today under the guidance of Giacomo we carry on the family tradition with the ability of uniting traditional dishes with contemporary cooking.
